Lingual Braces (fixed braces behind your teeth)

Like most specialist orthodontists, we no longer offer treatment with lingual braces.  We would, however, be delighted to discuss the alternative options with which we feel we can achieve a superior result.

Removable Brace

Removable braces are simple appliances that clip onto the teeth. They are most commonly used on the upper teeth typically in younger patients who are not ready for comprehensive treatment but who would benefit from early treatment. Removable braces can only be used for specific orthodontic problems.

Functional Braces

Functional appliances most commonly consist of an upper and lower removable brace which are worn together. They are usually fitted to help improve the way teeth bite together and reduce any prominence of the upper front teeth. They work by holding the lower jaw in a more forward position and this helps to provide the most favourable environment for growth of the lower jaw. They are worn during the day and at night time but can be removed for eating, sports and tooth-brushing. Fixed braces are usually necessary following functional appliance therapy.

Tooth-Coloured Braces

Tooth coloured appliances can provide a discreet solution to straightening your teeth without feeling conscious of wearing braces.

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces can be used to treat the full range of orthodontic problems. Brackets are bonded to the teeth and are joined with wires (archwires). Conventional fixed appliances have small elastics (modules) which hold the wire into the brackets. Other auxiliaries, for example – buttons, hooks, elastic bands and palate expanders may be used in conjunction with the brackets and wires.
